One of the challenges often faced in radio upgrade projects is obtaining current and accurate tower asset information. Through drone technology, reality modelling, machine learning and ground penetration radar, a new and safer method now exists to collect and convert data into a virtual 3D model of the tower outlining asset details, dimensions and high-resolution imagery.
This case study examines the outcomes from an Australian public safety agency responsible for the performance of a regional radio system that first responders depend on for reliable voice communications. There are several hundred communication towers contained within this system.
As early adopters of the tower auditing technology, the Agency have been able to obtain accurate data of both the assets on the tower and the foundations under the ground.
