Advances in new satellite technology and the deployment of next generation satellite services within the Australasian region provides users of mission critical communications new opportunities to deploy mobile broadband solutions with significantly improved coverage, capacity and availability.  This will have particular relevance to users in Public Safety and the Resources sector who have major operational requirements in rural and remote areas.

The presentation will particularly discuss the following three key satellite technology trends:

  • New satellites — with high-power, L-band fast-activation voice/data/messaging services for mobile communication applications. This is an evolution of the popular static BGAN terminals.
  • New spot beams — with high-rate, Ka-band capacity for HD Full Motion Video streaming and shared Group Situational Awareness.
  • Full integration of SATCOM data pathways with local bonded 4G/5G cellular services. This will provide more effective wide area mobile data coverage, which will be ideal for use in incident response and emergency vehicles.

These trends will drive the cost effectiveness and increased use of satellite-based mission critical broadband communication solutions.
