Surf Life Saving Tasmania Communications Advisor
Greg Bird has been a volunteer with Surf Life Saving since 1978. His professional career has seen him work for Telstra for 33 years, the last decade as a Solution Architect. In addition, he has undertaken contract work for the Australian Antarctic Division (AAD) as a Senior Comms Tech, building, maintaining and designing communications equipment for Antarctic bases and Macquarie Island. Greg was engaged by the AAD for a period, as Station Communications Manager to manage the day to day operations of the four bases and also planned and designed a high speed data link between Wilkins Runway and Casey Station 70 km over ice and started planning requirements for a complete rebuild of all communications for the bases, including HF, VHF and VOIP/ROIP consoles. Today Greg is semi-retired and works only on projects that he enjoys.
